Written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj. It is produced by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, Alankar Pandian and S. Kathiresan under the banners of Stone Bench Films, Five Star Creation and Invenio Origin. The film is a spiritual successor to Jigarthanda (2014) and stars Raghava Lawrence and S. J. Suryah in the lead roles.
Sharing the trailer on social media, Stone Bench Films tweeted, “Double the bang, double the punch, double the excitement! Presenting the TRAILER of #JigarthandaDoubleX - a @karthiksubbaraj film in theatres this Diwali! #DoubleXDiwali in theatres, from November 10th! @offl_Lawrence @iam_SJSuryah @dop_tirru @Music_Santhosh @kaarthekeyens @stonebenchers #AlankarPandian #InvenioOrigin @KRG_Studios @ParamvahStudios @rakshitshetty @ahimsafilms @5starcreationss @kathiresan_offl @thinkmusicindia”
The trailer video, which like the teaser spans more than two minutes, shows glimpses of a story set in 1975. It begins to show Lawrence as a gangster who wants to break Tamil cinema’s stereotypical notions of skin colour. Suryah stars as a filmmaker, an erstwhile assistant of Satyajit Ray, who strives to make a ‘Pandyaa Western’ movie with Lawrence’s character.
The film also stars Naveen Chandra, Shine Tom Chackoa and Nimisha Sajayan. The trailer promises an action-packed film with similar themes to that of the first film. The film is set to release in theatres on November 10 during Diwali.
