Mercedes accident: Doctors ‘recreate’ scene to learn seating position of occupants

Panaji, Aug 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) To figure out the seating positions of occupants of the Mercedes car at the time of accident, that claimed three lives in  Banastari on August 6, senior doctors of Goa ‘recreated’ the scene with their medical examination.

Dr Madhu Ghodkirekar, associate professor of forensic medicine at South Goa District Hospital, Margao, told IANS that all the five occupants, including driver, were summoned for the recreation exercise.

“This process is rarely done if there are doubts about who was driving the car that met with an accident. When there is an impact of an accident, the
seat belt marks are developed on the body of occupants, which remains for around 21 days. Hence we conducted this exercise and took photos of their positioning and body parts, from where the seat belt passes,” Ghodkirekar, also in charge of the mortuary complex of the hospital, said.

“In next two days we will submit the report to police” Dr. Ghodkirekar said.

Sources informed that the medical examination of all five occupants, including three children, went on for around four hours.

On August 6, three persons were killed and as many sustained critical injuries after a speeding Mercedes rammed into three cars and 2
two-wheelers while heading towards Panaji on the Banastari bridge in Ponda taluka, around 17 km from here.

After the accident, the people present at the site told reporters that a woman was driving the car. However, the police have arrested a male.

As per police, the driver of the car Paresh Sinai Sawardekar (48) – husband of car owner Meghana, has been arrested.

Among the dead were Suresh Fadte, 58, and his wife Bhawana, 52, from Divar-Cumbarjua, as well as Anup Karmarkar, 26, from Bandora in Marcaim constituency.

People from Divar village have alleged that police personnel were trying to compromise the case as the owner of the Mercedes is a relative of a
politician.

The local court at Ponda has granted interim protection/bail to Meghana Sawardekar, while Paresh Sinai Sawardekar is still behind bars.
