Chennai, Aug 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) wants the Central government appointed Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) to manage dams after Karnataka refused to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
In a statement on Saturday, PMK state president, Anbumani Ramadoss said that Karnataka should have released 38 TMC water to Tamil Nadu till August 9. This is as per the Supreme Court and Cauvery Tribunal verdict.
The PMK leader said that a group of officers from Karnataka have refused to comply to the rulings of the Supreme Court as well as Cauvery Tribunal.
Ramadoss said that four dams across Cauvery and its tributaries have 93.05 TMC of water which was 81 per cent of the total capacity.
He said that the dams have 244 per cent more water presently than the amount of water to be released to Tamil Nadu.
The PMK leader also said that the CWMA does not have any power to take action against Karnataka.
In the statement, the former Union Minister said that the CWMA can only request the Central government to implement the decision of the authority.
Ramadoss said that the power to handle the dams should be given to the CWMA so that the state is not devoid of water.
He called upon the Tamil Nadu government to move Supreme Court in this regard.
The Tamil Nadu side had walked out of the CWMA meeting held on Friday in Delhi after the Karnataka side had refused to release the 37.9 thousand million cubic feet (tmcft) that is due to the state.
