Gufi Paintal Created An Identity With Just One Character Says Raza Murad

Mumbai, 5th June 2023 (Newshelpline) - Veteran actor Raza Murad, who has been friends with late actor Gufi Paintal, fondly remembers his friend and praises his life and on-screen presence. 

 

Known for his role of Sakuni Mama in epic Mahabharat, Gufi Paintal passed away due to prolonged illness in Mumbai, today. His body has been transferred from Hospital to his home, where Raza Muard was among the first one to reach and offer a helping hand in a time of need. 

 

While talking to the media about his friend, Raza Murad said, “I was friends with him for 50 years. Filmmaker Rahul Ravail made a movie Gunhegaar, I was the actor in the film and Gufi was assistant director on the film. And in those days, he was remembered for being Paintal Saab’s brother.” 

 

“There was another movie, Laila Majnu, where he was handling the production. For years, he was struggling as actor and artist, he was a hardworking individual, and he wasn’t getting a clear direction, he’d always wanted to be an actor, but he started working for BR Films, he became the assistant director there, and that is where he found this role of Sakuni Mama, and it was not merely a character, it was history. Mahabharat serial is a milestone, highest TRP’s and streets would be empty when the serial used to air. His character of Sakuni mama is a memorable and iconic role, it has been written in golden words.”

 

“I remember watching Mahabharat play recently in Delhi, when Gufi entered the whole crowd went crazy, it felt like some rockstar had entered an arena. People still remember his character, but fate had something in mind. People do 100-200 films and still can’t create an identity for themselves, Gufi did it with just one character. He didn’t just create an identity for himself with his nuances. He is not among us anymore, he left us today, but his character will live for forever” added Raza.

 

He has been hospitalized for over a week due to age-related heart and kidney issues. He was in critical condition at Bellevue Multip-speciality Hospital in Andheri, Mumbai. However, his condition didn’t stabilize and he passed away today, 5th June 2023. 

 

Gufi Paintal's talent is not just restricted to acting, but he also worked as a television director. Apart from Mahabharat which aired in the late 1980s, he also acted in many popular Bollywood films like Rafoo Chakkar, Des Pardes, Dillagi, Maidan-E-Jung, Daava, amongst others.
