Released in 2003, a supernatural horror film directed by Ram Gopal Varma, starring Ajay Devgn, Urmila Matondkar, Nana Patekar, Rekha, Fardeen Khan and Tanuja in the lead roles, The film was perceived to be different from a typical Hindi film as it did not contain songs.
The film was a box-office hit. Urmila won several accolades and awards for her performance as a ghost possessed wife.
Sharing a video post on her social media profile, Urmila wrote, “20 years of “Bhoot” - Thank you for all your love n adulation...it took lots of guys to put myself out there in a role that not many would’ve dared. But I could do it only because of my tremendous trust in all of you”
Urmila married Kashmir based businessman and model Mohsin Akhtar Mir on 3 March 2016, and since then has done very few projects.
In addition to acting in films, Matondkar is involved with several humanitarian causes and is vocal about issues faced by women and children. She has participated in concert tours and stage shows, and featured as a talent judge for various dance reality shows, including Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (2007) and DID Super Moms (2022).
