The Kerala Story team, including Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Inani, Sonia Balani, director Sudipto Sen and producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah hosted a press-conference in Mumbai.
The team invited 26 girls from Aarsha Vidya Samajam Ashram, handling the real religion conversion survivors and introduced them to people, and donated 51 lakhs to the Ashram, a portion of films profits for their education and upliftment.
Adah Sharma said, “You have given so much love and appreciation, now it is time to listen to these girls’ stories and appreciate them.”
The Kerala Story narrates the story of three girls hailing from a weak economic background, forced into marriage, and later converted to Islam, only to join terrorist group ISIS. The movie takes a lot of inspiration from real-life cases from the state of Kerala.
The Kerala Story has been facing backlash from a section of political parties and groups who have claimed that the film is not based on facts, and propagates hatred against the Muslim community.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also declared a ban on The Kerala Story in the state, despite different bans and protests, the film has been running exceptionally well in theatres. The film is likely to cross Rs 190 crore-mark in India today.
The film is also releasing 27 countries, including UK.
