Kohima, Sep 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) A two-day session of the Nagaland Assembly would be held from September 20 where a fresh resolution urging the Central government to resolve the Naga political issue was expected to be adopted in the house, officials said on Wednesday.
On the other hand in a significant development, the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), NSCN-IM and the Naga National Political Groups (NNPG) in a joint meeting on Wednesday adopted a resolution to continue dialogue "in order to move forward, live in peace and overcome the cynicism, anxiety, and disagreements that have caused us to see each other as foes and strangers, rather than members of the same family".
A senior official said that the 12th session of the 13th Nagaland Assembly is again likely to adopt a resolution requesting the Centre to finalise the long-pending Naga political issue at the earliest. The Assembly earlier also, cutting across party lines, adopted such unanimous resolutions to settle the Naga political issue without further delay.
The business advisory committee of the Assembly in its meeting on Monday finalised the schedule.
The ruling parties in Nagaland, all other Naga bodies and civil society organisations are making all out efforts to resolve the Naga political issue before the next Assembly elections, expected to be held in February next year.
On Monday, the Parliamentary Core Committee headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and urged him to finalise the Naga political settlement at the earliest.
Meanwhile, a joint statement after the Wednesday's meeting of FNR, NSCN-IM and NNPG said that the meeting was held in the interest of pursuing genuine understanding among the Nagas and incrementally progressing forward.
"The 'covenant of reconciliation' of June 13, 2009, signed by the late Isak Chishi Swu, late S.S. Khaplang, and Brig (retired) S. Singnya would be honoured in letter and in spirit.
"Hence, we renew 'to work together in the spirit of love', and desist from all forms of armed violence and refrain from indulging in violence of words through print and social media among Naga Political Groups and the general public. From this time forth, in order to chart a path forward, we remain committed to 'peace and respect and to resolve outstanding issues among us'," the joint statement said.
Appreciating the Wednesday's meeting of FNR, NSCN-IM and NNPG, Rio tweeted: "I express my deep appreciation to the FNR, the Collective Leadership of NSCN/GPRN and the Working Committee NNPG on the historic step taken in resolving to remain committed to peace, unity, respect and settle outstanding issues. Peace and unity is the only way forward."
