IANS-CVoter National Mood Tracker: Large proportion of Muslims in favour of organ donation

New Delhi, Sep 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) Contrary to the popular notion, Muslims in India are equally aware of new life-saving medical researches and open to adopt them as any other social group in the country, as per the findings of a nationwide survey conducted by CVoter on behalf of Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti on the issue of organ donation and body donation.

Similar sentiment was expressed by the community about getting vaccinated against the lethal coronavirus during CVoter-IndiaTracker survey on the issue of vaccine hesitancy in India.

The CVoter survey on organ donation and body donation revealed that a large proportion of 40 per cent of informed Muslim respondents had either registered for body donation or expressed their willingness to register for it so that their organs can be used to save live lives. Notably, only 28 per cent said that the concept of body donation is against their religious faith. At the same time, 16 per cent were uncomfortable with the idea and 16 per cent had not thought about donating organs or the body.

This sentiment got reflected in the organ donation or body donation done by the members of the community. During the survey, 39 per cent of Muslims respondents said that someone in their family, relatives or close ones had donated organs or donated bodies.

Similarly, during the survey conducted on vaccine hesitancy in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, 54 per cent of Muslim respondents had opined that the vaccines are compatible with their religious beliefs. Mirroring this thought, 67 per cent of the respondents from the community had said that they want to get inoculated to get protection against the lethal virus.

The CVoter surveys clearly demolish the myth that Muslims are superstitious and conservative to organ donation and body donation. The survey found that the majority of Muslim respondents are not only supportive of organ donation and body donation, a bigger proportion of the community - 44 per cent is in favour of a law under which, all adult citizens of India will be auto registered with the government for organ donation. Only 20 per cent of Muslims expressed their views against such a law and 37 per cent were clueless about the idea.

According to reports, an estimated five lakh people die every year because of non - availability of organs. Formed in 1997, the Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti has been the leading organisation in spreading awareness about the noble causes of organ donation and body donation.
