Will hunt down all involved in Kallakurichi incident, says police

Chennai, July 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) The new Superintendent of Police of Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi district, R. Pakalavan who assumed office on Wednesday said the police would hunt down all those who were involved in the violence on Sunday.

A mob had vandalized a private residential school in Kallakurichi and burnt the school buses and four police vehicles on Sunday after a protest over the suicide of a plus two student of the school had turned violent.

The incident was a major setback to the Kallakurichi police and the district administration leading to the shunting out of the District collector, P.N. Sridharan and the district superintendent of Police, R. Selvakumar.

The Chief Minister had directed the DGP and home secretary to visit Kallakurichi and assess the situation.

The new Superintendent of Police told reporters on Wednesday that the priority of the police would be to bring the law and order situation back to normalcy.

He said that while the law and order situation was almost back to normalcy, the police would hunt down all those who were involved in the vandalizing and torching of vehicles and would bring them before the law of the land.

He said that the police would take measures to bring confidence among the local people and would interact with the people at the grass root level for ensuring that the situation in the area was under control.

R. Pakalavan said that the investigation of the case regarding the suicide of the girl and the violence in the area was handed over to specific teams.

He said that the Crime Branch, the Special Investigation Team, and the Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) were conducting the investigation in the case.

He also said that the police were in touch with the family members of the girl who had committed suicide and would do all assistance for her funeral with all due respect. The new Police superintendent also said that the police have already started investigation and those involved in the incidents including local people and outsiders would be brought to book.

The police superintendent also said that a proper handwriting analysis of the suicide note would be conducted properly.

The Madras High court had earlier come down heavily against the police and said that the incidents were not sporadic but instead meticulously planned and executed and called upon the police to bring to book all those involved in the incident.

The court had also said that the violent incidents have brought a bad reputation to the state of Tamil Nadu and the law and order situation in the state.
