IANS CVoter Snap Poll: Majority says Opposition remains weak and divided

New Delhi, June 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The results of the Rajya Sabha elections after many shenanigans that landed up at the doors of the Election Commission of India (ECI) were announced after many delays.

The only saving grace for the opposition was the Congress government in Rajasthan led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot ensuring that all three party candidates won while the BJP had to be satisfied with one seat.

But it was a completely different story in Haryana, Maharashtra and Karnataka where BJP candidates or "independent" candidates backed by the BJP won seats it could not have if the opposition was united and strong.

The BJP candidate winning an extra seat in Maharashtra was a shock for the Maha Vikas Aghadi regime led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray of the Shiv Sena.

The BJP needed the support of 17 independent and unaffiliated candidates for that. And it pulled it off. With this, the chances of the BJP candidate for the President of India sailing through looks easier.

During a nationwide survey conducted by CVoter on behalf of IANS, overall 70 per cent of the respondents were of the opinion that these election results prove that opposition to the Narendra Modi regime remains weak and divided.

Barring just one odd category, more than 60 per cent of respondents across education, income and ethnic lines agreed with the contention. Surprisingly, 62 per cent of opposition supporters agreed that the opposition remains weak and divided, while a whopping 82 per cent of NDA supporters felt the same.

The highest proportion (87 per cent) of respondents expressing the same opinion were veteran voters belonging to theatre group above 55. However, there was considerable difference when it came to the gender divide.

While 74 per cent of male respondents felt that the opposition remains weak and divided, 66 per cent of female respondents expressed the same opinion.
