Sonu Nigam landed in India late last evening and interacted with NewsHelpline about his Padma Shri Award. He said, “I have just landed, and I haven’t even met my dad yet. All I can say right now that this a quite a beautiful achievement in a long journey. To be honest, I’d stopped looking forward to this but yes, it is amazing”
When asked that his fans are going gaga over his award, Sonu added, “I haven’t seen it myself, but friends have been sending me pictures and what not on social media, I am humbled and grateful. But we also faced a huge loss recently, my mother, Lata Mangeshkar, she has left us, so I have mixed emotions right now. There is love from everyone about Padam Shri, but my mother Lata ji is not here, so I am feeling weird”
Sonu Nigam has been living overseas for the longest, says Mumbai is his motherland and he wouldn’t know where else to live. He said, “The kind of love, space, and success, I got here, I don’t think I could ever live someplace else. Mumbai is my motherland, as my mother is from here, and this is my karam-bhoomi as well”.
Nigam has launched his own music label named 'I Believe Music' and "Rudhrashtakam" is the first track to release under the label.
Sonu Nigam has been recipient of several accolades, including a National Film Award, two Filmfare Awards and two Filmfare Awards South, and now he has been honoured by the Government of India with Padma Shri, the country's fourth-highest civilian honour for his contribution in the field of arts.
