Death toll from heavy rains in Brazil's Sao Paulo rises to 28

Sao Paulo, Feb 3 (SocialNews.XYZ) The number of people killed in floods and landslides caused by heavy rains over the weekend in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo rose to 28, after three more bodies of missing people were recovered, the local civil defence authority has said.

The bodies of two brothers, both minors, and an elderly man were found by firefighters in the municipality of Franco da Rocha in the Sao Paulo Metropolitan Region, in an area buried by a landslide, Xinhua news agency reported.

 

The Sao Paulo Fire Department said at least seven people were still missing in Franco da Rocha and in the municipality of Jau.

Sao Paulo state was hit with heavy rains starting Saturday that caused flooding and landslides, and forced the evacuation of more than 600 families.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday visited Franco da Rocha and other areas affected by the storms and pledged aid.
