Mechanised sweeping in Delhi increased by 51% in December

New Delhi, Dec 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Compared to November, the mechanised road sweeping introduced to minimise dust pollution in the national capital has covered 51 per cent of the national capital's roads in December, according to the Delhi government.

This data was compiled from November 17-25 and November 26-December 6.

 

During this time frame, 15,238.9 km roads have been cleaned under South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) till December 6 in comparison to 9,513.6 km in November, 9,074 km against 6,901 in North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), and 3,219 km against 2,340 km in East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC).

In comparison to DSIIDC's November coverage of 350 km, in the month of December, the mechanised road sweeping has covered 550 km, 682 km against DCB's earlier 434 km.

Meanwhile, usage of water sprinkling tanks to the capital's most polluted areas have been increased by 65 per cent till December 6.

According to the Delhi government report, to limit the dust pollution arising due to manual sweeping, a total of 1,134 mechanised road sweeping machines with water sprinkling facility have been deployed across the city.

Additionally, a total of 60 anti-smog guns and 8,588 water tankers or sprinklers have been placed in the national capital.

Moreover, 4,245 sites using diesel generator sets were inspected till December 6, of which 48 were found using the sets, 18 were shut down and a fine of 5.4 lakh was imposed for not adhering to the anti-dust pollution guidelines.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in the month of October banned the use of diesel generator sets and ordered enhancing of parking fee by up to four times in Delhi-NCR. This measure was listed under the Graded Response Action Plan (Grap) when the air quality settled in the 'very poor' category.
