Filmmaker Abhik Bhanu wraps the shoot for forthcoming historic drama titled 1922 Pratikar Chauri Chaura. The film stars Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan, Anil Nagrath, Ashok Banthia, Vijay Trivedi, Upendra Pandey and Ravi Shankar Khare in prominent roles.
The movie is based on real life incident during non-cooperation movement, and the filmmaker has left no stone unturned to create British Era, it’s been shot in real locations such as Gorakhpur, Chauri Chaura, Bora Bazar and the surrounding areas with an ensemble of huge star cast of 127 characters.
“Set in 1922, when Mahatma Gandhi started the non-cooperation movement during British Raaj, a fight broke out between protestors and local British officials. The protesters set fire to a police station and killed at least 22 policemen in protest of the police firing on large group of demonstrators. 19 arrested freedom fighters were sentenced to death and 14 to imprisonment for life by the British colonial authorities. The incident did not have its due place in history books,” says writer-director Abhik Bhanu.
The makers erected a replica of police station from the era to make it look authentic; around 50-horses was also the part of 350-strong unit members. The film is now in its post-production stages and is being readied for an early release.
Talking about the release of the film, Abhik added, “Shooting is complete and we’re in post-production right now. We are aiming for the first quarter of 2022 and to commemorate with one-year centenary celebration of 1922 incident of ‘Chauri Chaura” initiated by Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his government officials was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year”
Made under the banner of Sarayu Vision, the film is co-produced by Anju Khare, and Atul Kumar Pandey serves as executive producer. Manoj Gupta is the DOP, Sumit Kumar as the line producer, Jwala Singh as the production manager and editing by Dhana Shekaran.
Abhik Bhanu is noted filmmaker with movies such as Sab Kuch Hai Kuch Bhi Nahi, A Dark Rainbow, Gun Pe Done and more under his credit. The filmmaker also penned his fifth book, Statue of Mahatma, which might be adapted in a film starring Padma Shri and the National Film Award winner actor Manoj Joshi.
