93 ||Modi govt reached out to 93 lakh farmers in six months! The government has conducted about 1.4 lakh training and webinar sessions, reaching out to nearly 93 lakh farmers, in the last six months over the agriculture reforms, senior government officials said, in an attempt to counter the claim that extensive outreach and consultations with farmers were not done while framing the new farm laws. The Centre, during the ongoing protests against the new laws, has been accused by farmer organisations as well as the opposition of not doing adequate consultations before the laws were brought in this September. A senior government official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said this was a manufactured perception and cited figures and data to claim that a comprehensive awareness and outreach drive had been undertaken at multiple levels. Thousands of small gatherings have been held at the village level to inform a large number of farmers about the new laws, he said. The government had first brought in ordinances on the laws on June 3. The official said in June itself, 708 training and webinar sessions were organised, covering 21,231 farmers. As many as 873 trainings and webinars were conducted in July, reaching out to 26,196 farmers, followed by 852 and 840 sessions covering 25,569 and 25,205 farmers in August and September, respectively.
