Actor Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starrer 'Coolie No. 1' makers just confirmed that the film will neither be released on single screens in India, nor it will get a theatrical release overseas. The comic-caper will releases on Amazon Prime this Christmas.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the news on social media. He tweeted, “XCLUSIV... While #CoolieNo1 premieres on #Amazon this #Christmas, an update on its *theatrical* release...#India: Won't release at single screens, puts all speculations to rest. #Overseas: No theatrical release, unlike #Laxmii [released in select markets simultaneously],"
After the box office success of 'Judwaa 2', this will be the second film of Varun with his father.
The comic caper is helmed by David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani. A remake of the 1995 film of the same name which itself is a remake of the 1993 Tamil film Chinna Mapillai, the film also stars Paresh Rawal, Javed Jaffrey, Rajpal Yadav, Johnny Lever, Sahil Vaid, Shikha Talsania, Vikas Verma, Manoj Joshi, Anil Dhawan and Bharati Achrekar in a supporting role.
The film was set to be theatrically released in India on 1 May 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was later re-scheduled to release during Christmas on Amazon Prime Video.
