Bengal T20 Challenger: Town Club beat East Bengal by 14 runs

Kolkata, Nov 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Town Club bowlers put on a dominant show along with Gitimoy Basu's blistering knock to defeat East Bengal by 14 runs in the Bengal T20 Challenger at the Eden Gardens on Thursday to register their second win on the trot.

Put into bat, Town Club rode on Gitimoy Basu's blistering 19-ball 45 not out to post 142/7 in their quota of 20 overs, while East Bengal managed to score 128/8 in reply while facing a disciplined Town bowling attack even skipper Arnab Nandi's unbeaten half-century went in vain.

Gitimoy said about their second win in a row: "Everyone is playing cricket after long time and other teams will come back in form as the tournament will progress. After 5-6 matches, the equation will be different so it's obviously better to win more matches at first. Two wins in two matches, we all are very happy."

Town trio Ananta Saha (2-14), Md Kaif (3-31) and Azaz Ansari (2-21) shared 7 wickets between them to rattle the East Bengal batting lineup while Arnab Nandi fought a lone battle by scoring an unbeaten 55 off 38 balls in a lost cause.

Confident about the team's strong comeback, Arnab said: "There's no pressure, East Bengal will fight back. It's a long tournament and we have just played 2 matches. We will play good cricket in the next matches and become one of the main contenders of the championship."

Earlier, Sudip Gharami (35) and Purab Joshi (25) steadied Town Club after losing Mirza Danish Alam in the very first over. East Bengal bowlers continued to take wickets in regular intervals till Gitimoy played that quickfire knock.

Gitimoy smashed 5 boundaries and 3 sixes while Akash Pandey was the highest wicket taker for East Bengal with 2 for 24.
