Mumbai Police summons Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli; Kangana slams Shiv Sena by calling them ‘Obsessed Penguin Sena’

Actress Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel have been summoned for questioning by the Mumbai police in a sedition case. Both the sisters were asked to appear before the investigating officer on October 26 and 27. Reacting on the development, Kangana slammed Shiv Sena, ruling party of Maharashtra by calling them ‘Obsessed Penguin Sena’ on social media on Thursday. She also took indirect jibe at Indian National Congress who is ally of Shiv Sena in Maharashtra by saying that if they are missing her so much then she will soon meet them as per their orders.

The First Information Report against Kangana and Rangoli was registered last week following an order from the Mumbai Magistrate's court.

In response to a petition from a casting director who alleged that the 31-year-old, besides defaming Bollywood, was also "creating a communal divide" through her tweets, the court said a thorough investigation by an expert is necessary.

Kangana Ranaut, who made headlines with her row with Maharashtra's ruling party Shiv Sena with her comments on the Sushant Singh Rajput death case and alleged lawlessness in Mumbai, had left the city and gone back to her hometown Manali last month.

Reacting on the development, Kangana shared a news article about the same on her Twitter handle and wrote in Hindi, “Obsessed penguin Sena ... Pappupro of Maharashtra, bahut yaad aati hai k-k-k-k-k-Kangana, koi baat nahin jaldi aa jaungi ....”.

The “penguin” slur for Shiv Sena is one that has been in circulation since Maharashtra’s current chief minister Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aditya engineered a move of eight Humboldt penguins in 2016 to the Byculla Zoo from Seoul. The exercise cost Rs. 45 crore. In the same summer, one of the penguins died, which led to pitched protests.

Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is often called as ‘Pappu’ by the members of Bharatiya Janata Party, so using that word Kangana called Congress party as ‘Pappu pro of Maharashtra’ in her recent tweet.

The battle between the Shiv Sena and Ranaut had escalated after her comparison of the country's financial capital with Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and claims that she was ‘scared’ to live there. The Sena and NCP's Anil Deshmukh had suggested her that if she believes what she is saying then she should leave the city. The Sena has accused the BJP of fighting a proxy war through her.

The row was also fuelled by the Mumbai civic authorities' demolition of Kangana's office in the posh Pali Hills area, citing 14 ‘violations’.

However, ‘Queen’ actress secured a stay on the demolition after it was almost over and filed a ₹ 2 crore compensation claim. In her petition, she claimed the demolition was a direct result of her comments against the Maharashtra government.
