Fearing terrorists seeking hideouts, prohibitory orders clamped in Guwahati
Guwahati, Oct 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Anticipating terrorist or subversive anti-social activities, the Deputy Commissioner of Police has imposed prohibitory orders in Guwahati and asked all house owners not to provide any accommodation to anyone without informing the police, officials said on Friday.

The Central Police District in Guwahati has imposed the prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPc and asked all the landlords and property owners of the area to refrain from renting or sub-letting accommodation to any person without prior permission of the officer in-charge of the concerned police station.

"The orders came into effect from October 15 onwards and shall remain in force for a period of 60 days unless withdrawn earlier," an official said quoting the notification.

The notification, published in the media, said: "It is apprehended that terrorist or anti-social elements may seek hideouts in the residential areas of the Central Police District in Guwahati and there is every likelihood of breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility and also there is likelihood of grave danger to human life and safety and injury of public property on that account."

"It is necessary that some checks should be put on landlords or tenants so that terrorists or anti-social elements in the guise of tenants may not cause explosion, riot, shootout, affray, etc., and that immediate action is necessary for the prevention of the same," the notification said.

The notification, issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Central Police District, Rajveer, said that any person contravening this order shall be punished under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.

People dealing in property business have also been asked to furnish details in writing of the tenants to the officer in-charge of the concerned police station.

The Central Police District of Guwahati includes the areas under the jurisdiction of eight general police stations -- Chandmari, Noonmati, Geetanagar, Paltan Bazar, Pan Bazar, Latasil, Satgaon and Pragjyotishpur -- and an all women police station.

With a population of over 10 lakh, Guwahati is the main commercial hub of the entire northeastern region and the key route to connect most of the northeastern states.
