Telangana Governor calls for protecting ancient temple

Hyderabad, Sep 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Telangana Governor, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday urged the Union Ministry of Culture to carry out repair and restoration works to protect the Kakatiya-period Trikuta Temple at Mupparam village in Warangal district.

Expressing concern over the dilapidated condition of the temple that has got beautiful murals related to Ramayana etched on its ceiling, the Governor, in a letter, requested Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel to instruct the Archaeological Survey of India to inspect the site and coordinate with the state government to restore its splendour.

"It is important to protect such marvellous architectural works of Kakatiyas and we must protect them for the benefit of our future generations to help them know about our past glory and grandeur," she said.

The Governor stated that Telangana is endowed with rich cultural heritage and rare historical monuments in India, noting Kakatiya dynasty rulers left a great legacy by building many great architectural marvels.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, the Governor conducted a virtual felicitation to five eminent activists - Prof Shantha Sinha (MV Foundation), Dr Mamatha Raghuveer (Tharuni Organisation), Sunitha Krishnan (Prajwala Foundation), Dr Anitha (Gandhi Hospital) and Dr Vijay Kumar Goud (Disabled Foundation Trust and Ravi Helios Hospital) in appreciation of their services.

Noting that offering selfless service to the underprivileged and other downtrodden sections is a noble activity, she said it takes courage and positive attitude to serve the needy and thus risking our life and wellbeing.

Expressing concern over the plight of children and exploitation of women still prevalent in some areas, the Governor pointed out that poverty was the root cause of the problem and "we must all do concerted efforts to end the vicious circle of poverty, unemployment, backwardness and exploitation".

"When I was doing my PG House Surgeonship at Thanjavur Medical College, I was moved by the plight of people who used to bring in their ailing children in bullock carts due to poverty and lost the 'Golden Hour' advantage in some cases. During my further studies in Canada, I found ailing kids being shifted in helicopters. That was one of the motivating factors for me to enter into politics to serve the underprivileged," she added.

The Governor appreciated the services of the activists and their commitment to serve the people beyond their calling, while facing many hurdles, obstacle and threats in the process.

She assured the activists that she would take up the issues of child marriages, child labour and trafficking of women with the government for their improved efforts in this direction.

The Governor hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the personification of service and called upon different sections of the people to emulate his services to serve the nation.
