Chief Justice of India SA Bobde today recused from hearing the challenge to the stay order passed by the Andhra Pradesh High Court on the government's move to trifurcate the State Capital.

The Bench of CJI SA Bobde and Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian took up the matter for hearing today.

During the hearing, Senior Counsel Ranjit Kumar pointed out that CJI Bobde's daughter had represented one of the private parties before the High Court. This prompted CJI Bobde to recuse from hearing the case.

 

The matter will now be heard on Wednesday, August 19.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court had recently passed an order staying the state government's move to trifurcate the State's capital at Kurnool, Vishakhapatnam and Amaravati. This order was passed in a plea moved by a group of farmers.

The state government's move to set up Kurnool as the Judicial capital, Vishakhapatnam as the Executive capital, and Amaravati as the Legislative capital, had received the Governor's assent on July 31.
