Ganguly's former trainer Ashoke Mustafi passes away
Kolkata, July 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Former Bengal cricketer and renowned coach Ashoke Mustafi, who trained former India captain and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly during his formative years, passed away on Thursday after prolonged illness. He was 86 and is survived by his daughter, based in London.

He was the coach of Dukhiram Cricket Coaching Centre and guided several Bengal Ranji cricketers including Ganguly. It was Ganguly's father who had sent the southpaw to learn under Mustafi in his early days.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Avishek Dalmiya said: "I am shocked and sad at the demise of Ashoke Mustafi Sir. His contribution to cricket, especially in shaping up careers would be remembered forever. Deepest condolences to his family. Pray to Almighty for his soul's eternal peace."

He played two matches for Bengal, but also went on to become a renowned coach.

Recently, the CAB's non-permanent staffer Chandan Das recovered from coronavirus as the 37-year-old tested negative, after a 10-day stay at hospital and 14-day home quarantine.

After being discharged from the hospital on July 12, Chandan was in home quarantine for 14 days and on Monday his second test report came negative.

The Kolkata Police have also set up quarantine facilities under the galleries of E and F Blocks of the Eden Gardens in the wake of the pandemic.

The CAB under its Stay Safe Initiative had also decided earlier this month to auto-renew the annual, associate and life membership of the members for the 2020-21 season, keeping in mind the extraordinary circumstances created by the health crisis.
