Delhi sizzles at 46.2 degree Celsius, severe heatwave to continue

New Delhi, May 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The national capital on Saturday witnessed maximum temperature of 46.2 degree Celsius - the highest this season -- with the weather office predicting severe heatwave in the coming days.

The India Meteorological Department's Aya Nagar observatory recorded 46.2 degrees Celsius, six notches above the normal.

 

The maximum temperature at the Safdarjung observatory was recorded at 44.7 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, Palam in southwest Delhi recorded 45.6 degree Celsius while the Lodhi Road observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 44.4 degree Celsius.

According to the IMD, heatwave/severe heatwave will continue over most parts Delhi/NCR between May 24 and 27 due to dry and northwesterly winds prevailing over northwest India and Delhi/NCR.

"Respite will be from May 28 night, when the next western disturbance will affect northwest India while easterly winds will prevail at the lower levels," the IMD said.

It said that a dust storm or thunderstorm accompanied by strong gusty winds of 50-60 kmph is likely to occur on May 29 and May 30 over Delhi-NCR.
