Greaves Cotton resumes operations in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, May 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) Leading diversified engineering firm Greaves Cotton, which manufactures engines and heavy equipment, resumed operations at some of its units in this tech city, an official said on Monday.

"With the easing of the lockdown norms, we have commenced local operations as per the official guidelines to ensure the safety and health of our employees," the company official said in a statement.

The partial relaxation in restrictions since May 4 to revive manufacturing and services sectors by the Karnataka government amid the extended lockdown has enabled the company to operate with one third of essential staff at its select offices, with its employees wearing masks, washing hands regularly and keeping social distance to prevent the coronavirus spread.

"The remaining two third employees in our operations in the city will work from home until further notice," said the statement but did not mention the company's headcount.

The company has sanitised its office in the city before resuming operations.

"We told our employees that wearing mask at all times before they leave for work and return to home was mandatory. We also advised our staff to use their own vehicles and avoid public transport," noted the official.

The company has made use of Aarogya Setu app for updates on Covid-19 compulsory.

The 160-year-old market leader makes Cleantech power-trains for CNG, petrol and diesel segments.

The company operates in multiple segments spanning automotive, non-automotive, aftermarket and electric mobility through its Ampere Electric arm, which makes e-scooters and e-rickshaw.

The sudden enforcement of the lockdown on March 24 midnight and its extension have forced the company to shut its operations as public transport service was also suspended since then.
