Nirmal Baby Varghese’s “Mirror of Reality” and “Mattam the Change” selected to Lift-Off Global Network Sessions, England

Two Malayalam short films, "Mirror of Reality" and "Mattam the Change", directed by Nirmal Baby Varghese, have been selected to an International short film competition, Lift-Off Global Network Sessions 2020 in Pinewood Studios, England. Both films have been selected for the category of Short Live Action Narrative. The festival kicks off at Pinewood Studios in England on May 17th.

"Mirror of Reality" tells the story of a young man who is addicted to alcohol is drinking alone. Then, in the mirror, he imagines the consequences of drinking. Film produced by director himself under the banner of Casablanca Film Factory. Arun Kumar Panayal plays the lead role. Cinematographer: Varun Ravindran, stills and associate cinematographer: Midhun Eravil, creative support: Saran Kumar Bare. This short film has already selected to the Shorted Short Film Festival in Mumbai and the ENFOQUE Unidos Short Film Competition in US.

"Mattam the Change" tells the story of a young man who has to end his life with the bad habits of his past, travels through his old memories and mentally strives for new change. Film produced by director himself under the banner of Casablanca Film Factory. Aswin Sreenivasan and Arun Kumar Panayal plays the lead role. Cinematographer: Varun Ravindran, creative support: Saran Kumar Bare.

 

Both of these short films were released on Amazon Prime Video, in last March. The release of both films completed in 2016 was delayed for some reason. Nirmal is the director who got his attention through the historical documentary film Thariode. The documentary was selected to the Košice International Monthly Film Festival in Košice, Slovak Republic, Central Europe, and it was a finalist in the Best Trailer category. The director is also making a cinematic remake of the same documentary.
