Corona cases in India at 4421, Maharashtra worst hit

New Delhi, April 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) With India in the third week of its 21-day nationwide lockdown, the total active cases of the novel coronavirus on Tuesday reached 3,981 with Maharashtra continuing to be the worst-hit with 868 total confirmed cases and 52 deaths so far, followed by Tamil Nadu.

Kerala has a total of 327 cases, Uttar Pradesh 305, Rajasthan 288 and West Bengal 91. However the BJP has alleged that the Bengal government has suppressed data. Telangana which saw a sudden surge of cases has so far been able to arrest the trend with a total of 321 cases.

Among the major hotspots across India are Rajasthan's Bhilwara which has successfully contained the spread, Noida in Uttar Pradesh, Nizamuddin in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra and Kasargod in Kerala among others.

The national capital appeared to be fast catching up with 523 total cases so far and 7 deaths, as the Aam Aadmi Party government plans to go for random testing at all hotspots in the city.

So far 114 people have died due to the coronavirus in India, according to the website of the Union Health Ministry. A total of 325 people have recovered since the first case was reported in the country on January 30.

The total number of novel coronavirus affected people in India, including those who have recovered, stands at 4,421.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Monday said it has scaled up its capacity to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The apex medical research body has allowed rapid antibody based blood tests for COVID-19. However, these tests will be conducted as a strategy for areas reporting clusters (containment zone) and in large migration gatherings/evacuee centres. The ICMR has validated and recommended 7 such test kits for use. Also, antibody tests are not suitable to diagnose live COVID-19 infections.
