MP minister adds fuel to fire before Rajya Sabha polls

New Delhi/Bhopal, March 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) The crisis in the Madhya Pradesh Congress has deepened as the party struggles to keep its flock together while state Forest Minister Umang Singhar has added fuel to the fire ahead of Rajya Sabha polls in the state.

Singhar tweeted: "Honourable Kamal Nath ji's government is safe, this is a fight for Rajya Sabha and rest you all are wise enough to understand."

Even though Singhar has not named anyone in the tweet, it is being seen as a veiled attack on veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh.

The situation in the ruling party is already fraught as the Congress has accused the BJP of trying to poach its MLAs.

There are three seats in Rajya Sabha going to polls in the state this month. BJP is favoured to win one seat and the Congress the second seat but the third seat is on edge and if the BJP decides to contest and field the fourth candidate then there will be a contest and the ruling party may find it tough with seven floating votes, as there are four independents, two BSP MLAs and one SP MLA.

One BSP rebel is with the Congress but the situation can change anytime seeing the volatile politics of the state.

The current strength of Madhya Pradesh Assembly is 228, where Congress has 114 and support of seven other MLAs the BJP has 107. But as per the Congress, four MLAs of the party are missing and one MLA each of SP, BSP and independents.

The internal rift within the state Congress is also the reason behind the rebellion by Jyotiraditya Scindia who has been at loggerheads with Chief Minister Kamal Nath.

Scindia claiming a seat in the Upper House has miffed some leaders which can upset equations in the state, said sources.

Digvijaya Singh is also eyeing a seat, said sources.

Scindia may find it tough to get nomination in the state as the Congress might want to play it safe and give a go ahead to the choice of Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh, said a top source in the party

The party high command is already upset with the public spats and factionalism in the state and it has tasked state in-charge Deepak Babaria to resolve the issue.

The Congress has also formed a manifesto implementation committee under the chairmanship of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
