Archbishop of Delhi calls for help to riot victims
New Delhi, Feb 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Calling for helps to Delhi riots victims, the Archbishop of Delhi, Anil Couto urged followers of Archdiocese in Delhi to extend shelter, food and clothing to the victims of violence.

He also added that if needed the Churches and institutional premises of Archdiocese in Delhi will remain open in the Lenten season to help the victims.

"At this trying moment when communal riots have suddenly gripped Delhi, let us come forward with our prayers and every possible effort to bring relief to the affected people in terms of shelter, food and clothing etc.," the Archbishop of Delhi said in a letter addressed to all priests, religious and followers of Archdiocese of Delhi.

 

"If need be, by even opening up our church/institutional premises for this noble cause in the Lenten season," he added in the letter.

Over 40 people have lost their lives and 263 injured persons have been admitted to various hospitals with around 100 odd having bullet injuries, in Delhi riots according to Delhi Police.

"The toll will continue to rise as more deaths and injured data is tabulated," said a senior police officer.

A total of 148 cases have been registered out of which 25 FIRs are under Arms Act. "A total 630 people have been arrested/detained and Special Investigation Team has started a probe into the matter," said Special Commissioner of Police S.N. Shrivastava.
