Day after BJP's loss, Modi tight-lipped on Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Twenty-four hours after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was routed in Delhi Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was at his usual aggressive avatar on Wednesday, hitting out at the opposition.

However, he remained tight-lipped on the party's poll debacle in the national capital while speaking at a Times Now Summit here on Wednesday.

In fact, he largely steered clear of making any political points and focussed more on the state of Indian economy.

Showing no effect of the loss in Delhi, Modi showcased his economic vision for India. Throwing his weight behind Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, he reiterated his vision of making India a $5 trillion economy.

"Now India aims to expand its economy to $5 trillion in the next five years. This goal is not easy, but not that it cannot be achieved," Modi said.

Hailing the recently announced Union Budget, the Prime Minister said, "There is another area in our country that governments have been very hesitant to put their hands on. It is the tax system. There was no change in this for years. Till now, we have dominated the process centric tax system. Now it is being made citizen centric."

However, making the process transparent has left many "unhappy", Modi added.

Urging people to be more dutiful, the Prime Minister said that he wants to make India a tax complaint society.

"When so many people do not pay tax, find ways of not paying tax, it falls upon those who pay tax honestly. Therefore, I would like to urge every Indian to introspect in this matter," Modi said.
