Agartala/Aizawl/Imphal, Feb 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) In the wake of special summary revisions of the electoral rolls, women voters again outnumber men in the northeastern states of Manipur and Mizoram, while Tripura has witnessed a record gender ratio in its voters list, officials said on Saturday.

After around the two-month-long special summary revision of photo-affixed electoral rolls, the final lists were published on Friday in many states with January 1, 2020, as the qualifying date for age.

In Imphal, Manipur Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ramananda Nongmeikapam said that according to the final photo-electoral rolls, the state has 19,12,649 voters, including 9,30,931 male and 88 third-gender voters.

With 9,81,630 female voters, Manipur is the fourth northeastern state after Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya where female voters have exceeded male voters for the past several years.

In Manipur, there are 1,054 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.

"Following Election Commission orders, the state Election Department carried out special summary revision of electoral rolls in Manipur. The names of more than 67,000 persons were removed on various grounds, and 38,000 new voters enrolled," Nongmeikapam told IANS.

In Aizawl, a Mizoram Election Department official said there were a total of 7,99,328 voters in the final list, including 4,10,085 women and 3,89,243 men. There is no third gender voter in this northeastern state.

"In seven of the eight districts, except Mamit, the number of women voters is higher than male voters," the official pointed out.

According to the final electoral rolls in Christian-dominated Mizoram, there were 1,054 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.

With 15,429 new voters, the final electoral rolls recorded an increase of 1.97 per cent voters over last year's rolls, which had 7,83,899 voters.

In Agartala, the Tripura rolls published on Friday showed a record increase of gender ratio to 976 females to 1,000 males.

"Though we have no exact data available, sex ratio in Tripura (in electoral rolls) is quite good compared with the national average and many states in India," an official of the Tripura Election Department told IANS.

In the 2019 electoral rolls in Tripura, there were 972 female voters for every 1,000 male voters; and in the 2018 voters' list, there were 965 women voters for every 1,000 men.

The number of Tripura voters has now risen to 26,42,616, including 13,05,522 women, 13,37,068 men and 26 third-gender voters. With 53,418 new voters, the increase is 2.06 per cent voters over last year's list, which had 25,89,198 voters.
