Word Condom Is Still A Taboo In Minds Of Girls, Says Bhumi Pednekar.

Film actress Bhumi Pednekar is Bollywood’s go-to-girl for roles that require depth and diversity. who in many movies have played women of fortitude with a strong moral fibre, says that the word condom is still a taboo in minds of girls. They feel ashamed to buy condoms from the chemist. She believes that this shouldn’t be the situation, because it’s the her right to ask for contraceptive.

Bhumi was seen interacting with media at the launch of MTV ‘NIshedh’ on Thursday in Mumbai.

Expressing her views on educating girls on sexual health, Bhumi said, “ I have done films on subjects based on sexual disorder and poor sanitation in India. We usually show our women very demure and submissive. But I think over the last few years things are changing. It’s very important to choose topics on sexual health and others. Because even today, the word condom is like a taboo in minds of girls. A girl needs to know that it is her right to ask for a contraceptive. She should not be ashamed in buying a condom from the chemist. In fact, they are scared to even discuss on it.

There are statistics, which showed around 12 million illegal abortion was conducted annually, including developed and developing regions. This all happens due to the lack of education on teenage pregnancy. When any girl falls into such situation, half of them get scared to talk to their parents and opts for abortion. We need to make the environment safe for our future generation. Otherwise, it will show that we have failed as system somewhere. This is what exactly happening in our country, she added.”

On the work front, Bhumi Pednekar will be seen in the upcoming movie Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship. It’s a horror thriller film directed by Bhanu Pratap Singh and jointly produced by Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Shashank Khaitan. The film features Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Ashutosh Rana in lead roles. It is scheduled to release on February 21 2020.
