AICF's second general body meeting to be held on Dec 22

Chennai, Dec 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) The second of the three general body meetings of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) will be held on Sunday at Gurugram in Haryana, according to the federation's secretary Bharat Singh Chauhan.

"A case was filed against holding of the Special Meeting of the AICF general body by President P.R Venketrama Raja in the Madras High Court. The court refused to stay the meeting," Chauhan told IANS.

According to him, the meeting will discuss the business listed in the agenda.

"There will not be any resolution proposed at the meeting to express lack of confidence in an office bearer and seeking their suspension or removal," Chauhan added.

Incidentally the meeting is being held despite the Central government postponing the meeting to December 28.

The first meeting of the AICF general body was held here on December 14. The meeting was called by Raja.

Agreeing that the court has refused to stay the Sunday meeting of the general body FIDE zone 3.7 President R.M. Dongre told IANS: "The court also said the decisions taken at the meeting are subject to the court's order. The court also observed that the requisition of the meeting was not in proper order."

According to him, the requisition notice for a special meeting of the general body did not mention the names of the 10 state associations which had requisitioned the special meeting to be called by the Secretary.

Meanwhile, Chauhan said a meeting of the AICF's Central Council has also been called on December 22. As per AICF rules the Central Council should meet four times in a year.

The agenda listed by Chauhan in the notice of the general body called by him includes exploring the possibilities of early elections in the AICF, discussing and deciding on the mala fide show cause notice issued by Raja to Chauhan, discussing and deciding about the letter from the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and to adopt chess in school projects as proposed by Chauhan.

He said the meeting will not discuss the issues relating to the Bengal Chess Association (BCA).

The issues relating to BCA will be discussed at the December 28 general body meeting called by Raja on December 14 where an observer from the Central government will also be present.

The AICF is split into two factions--one led by President Raja and the other by Secretary Chauhan.

"There is no question of compromise. Let the issue get settled by elections. The elections should be held under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court judge or an administrator," Chauhan had told IANS earlier.
