Tributes pour in for veteran actor Shriram Lagoo, who died in Pune due to age-related complications. He was 92 and had acted in more than 100 Hindi and Marathi films, around 40 Marathi, Hindi and Gujarati plays, and directed a number of Marathi plays.
Bollywood celebrities such as Rishi Kapoor, Madhur Bhandarkar, Mohnish Bahl and more took to their social media profiles and expressed grief and paid tribute to the most iconic actor of film industry.
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar wrote, “Saddened to hear demise of veteran actor Dr. #ShriramLagoo sir. He was great socialist and versatile actor, his contributions will always be remembered for his memorable roles in theatre & films. #OmShanti”
Actor Rishi Kapoor tweeted, “R I P. One of the most natural spontaneous actors, Dr. Shreeram Lagoo sahab leaves us. Did several films way back. Unfortunately never got to work with him in the past 25/30 years. He had a retired life in Pune. Love you Dr. Sahab.”
Actor Mohnish Bahl wrote, “RIP Dr. Sriram Lagoo...Remember you vividly from my childhood at my Mother's shoots...You were highly respected by her...God bless...May your soul find eternal peace.”
Dr Shriram Lagoo was born in Satara in 1927, he did his schooling and college in Pune. He enrolled for medicine at BJ Medical College there, and went on to specialise as an ENT surgeon from London and obtain an FRCS qualification. He worked as a medical practitioner in Tanzania before deciding to take the plunge as a full-time actor at age 42.
His last prominent appearance on the silver screen was in Sandesh Kulkarni’s Masala (2012), in which he played the role of an aging perfume seller.
