I told Centre my police is enough to handle protests: Mamata

Kolkata, Dec 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) The West Bengal government has refused the Centre's offer to rush in paramilitary forces to quell the continuing widespread violence during protests in the state against the new citizenship law (CAA), Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said here on Monday.

"They have asked us whether we need CISF, CRPF and BSF. I have said my police are enough", Banerjee said at a meeting in protest against the CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) after leading a march in the city.

"People of our state will manage the situation by cooperating with the police," she said.

A number of trains, railway stations, train tracks, toll plazas and buses have been torched and vandalised and train and vehicular movement thrown into jeopardy in the anti-CAA protests that began in Bengal on Friday.

Appealing to the Muslims to protest democratically and peacefully against CAB and NRC, she said: "Remember, there are some people who don't want your movement to succeed.

"They will indulge in arson and make people turn against you. And then tell the Centre to deploy the Army," Banerjee said.

She said at least four people have died in police firing in Assam.

"But we have kept full faith in our police," she said, urging people to inform the police personnel if they apprehend disturbances.
