Delhi to sensitise students to respect women: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Dec 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced that soon schools and colleges in the national capital will sensitise students to respect women.

Kejriwal said the Delhi government schools and colleges will soon make its male students take a pledge to behave properly with women, as he announced a three-pronged initiative to enhance gender sensitisation.

Speaking on women safety at an event, he said we should think first why men are behaving in such a way.

"Each and every mother needs to check upon her son. She should tell him that he will be not allowed in the house after committing any crime against women. He should be told that not just the society but the family too will boycott him."

He said if each woman tells the men in the house about this, "I feel the men will get some lesson".

"An open discussion on the issue is important. I just spoke to Manish (Sisodia), my Education Minister, that we will make the boys from both government and private schools take a pledge that they will never misbehave with any women in their lifetime. At least they will be forced to think about this. We are, currently, not even thinking about these issues."

He said the pledge will not be a one-time thing. "It will be repeated over a regular period of time."

Kejriwal said the girls will also be encouraged to take up the discussion with their brothers. "Even if you think your brother is very good, you still need to talk to him."

He said boys above Class VI and from colleges, and universities in Delhi will take an oath to respect women and swear that they will never misbehave with a woman.

"Also, an hour-long classroom discussion on respecting women will be conducted," he said.

He said the government will speak to all private schools, colleges, and universities in this regard and will figure out a mechanism to implement these initiatives effectively.

However, he clarified that these initiatives are not a substitute for law and order.

"Governments and police will do their work."
