‘In The Heights’ is an upcoming American musical drama film directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Quiara Alegría Hudes, based on the Broadway musical of the same name by Hudes and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The film stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Olga Merediz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Gregory Diaz IV, Stephanie Beatriz, Dascha Polanco, and Jimmy Smits.
The movie adaptation just dropped its first full-length trailer, which promises lavish musical numbers, grand production values and a rich emotional sweep to mirror that of the Broadway original.
Set in New York's Washington Heights neighbourhood, In the Heights tells the story of an immigrants' son — played by Miranda on Broadway and Ramos here — and his vibrant community over the course of three eventful days.
The musical, set over three days in the largely Hispanic-American neighbourhood of Washington Heights in New York City, centres on a bodega owner who must decide whether or not to give up his store and leave his community behind after inheriting his grandmother’s fortune.
The director is coming off the major success of “Crazy Rich Asians” and looks to have another crowd-pleasing hit on his hands. The film hits the marquee on 26th June 2020.
