Khaleda's bail hearing in corruption case deferred

Dhaka, Dec 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Bangladesh Supreme Court on Thursday deferred former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's bail hearing in a corruption case after authorities sought more time to submit a report on her health.

A six-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain gave the authorities until December 11 to hand in the medical report and fixed December 12 to issue the next order in the matter, reports bdnews24.

The apex court on November 28 ordered Khaleda's doctors at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU) to submit a report on her health, pending a ruling on her bail appeal in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.

The top court had then adjourned the hearing on the petition until December 5.

On October 29, 2018, a special court in Dhaka sentenced Khaleda to seven years in prison in the case dubbed "false" by her Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The former leader was transferred to the BSMMU on April 1 this year for treatment.

Khaleda has been in prison since February 2018 serving a total of 17 years in jail in the Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases.
