Bengal Assembly adjourned as 'bills yet to get Guv's nod'

Kolkata, Dec 3 (SocialNews.XYZ) In an unprecedented action, West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee on Tuesday adjourned the House for two days, saying bills scheduled to be placed before the members were yet to get the green signal from Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.

In a hard-hitting response, the Raj Bhavan denied any delay on the part of the Governor and said the pending bills were on account of "lack of input or response" from the respective Departments.

Earlier, Banerjee said the House would remain adjourned on December 4 and 5 and resume its session on December 6 at 11 a.m.

"We had scheduled some bills to be tabled in the House and sent them for the Governor's nod before their presentation. The bills had gone for printing too. But they are yet to receive the Governor's nod, we cannot place them... So the House will remain adjourned for two days," said the Speaker.

The Raj Bhavan said the situation projected was "factually untenable".

"There has been no delay in handling the legislative work in the Raj Bhavan. Highest priority is accorded. However, all issues are thoroughly gone into after due briefing from the Department.

"There is no delay whatsoever at the end of the Hon'ble Governor in dealing with Legislative work and if issues there on are pending, it is on account of lack of input or response from the concerned in the respective Departments," the release said.
