Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker says though the Maratha lost of battle of Panipat, but it’s an inspirational tale of bravery, which current generation should know about.
Actor Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon along with filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker were interacting with media to promote their forthcoming period drama Panipat in Mumbai.
Director Ashutosh Gowariker is known for making period drama’s and while sharing his reason behind making yet another forgotten tale from history pages, he said, “First of all, Panipat is a city name plus three battles are associated with the place. We all know about the first two battles, perhaps on the very surface level. I showcased the second battle in Jodha-Akbar, but there isn’t much information about the third battle and neither have we shown any interested knowing about it because we lost that battle”
“I have been reading and researching about the third battle for last five-six years and I realized it’s an inspirational tale about bravery. A Maratha warrior lead the army to stop an invasion, I found the whole expedition very fascinating. And I thought, if I ever got a chance to make film about this battle with this unknown aspect of it, I’d make it. There is nothing about the battle in books, so for this generation, it is important to know the sacrifice of Maratha warriors” added Ashutosh.
Ashutosh also added that he believe in research material, not novel, because fiction should be presented with facts. He said, “When I search for material, I believe in history, I do not believe in novels because they are all fiction. And I am also creating a fiction which is combined with facts, so it becomes important that the facts are correct”
Panipat is based on the Third Battle of Panipat, it stars Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles. It is scheduled to release on 6 December 2019.
