Foreign funding case: PTI shows no trust in Pak EC chief

Islamabad, Nov 25 (SocialNews.XYZ) Ahead of a verdict in the foreign funding case against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan's ruling party has raised questions about impartiality of Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd.) Sardar Muhammad Raza.

Raza is likely to issue a verdict in the foreign funding case before his retirement on December 6.

Prime Minister Imran Khan presided over the PTI's core committee meeting on Sunday and reiterated the party's demand that Election Commission hear cases of all three major political parties - PTI, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), simultaneously and refrain from singling out PTI.

"The ECP should follow rules, give equal opportunities to all the parties and conduct across-the-board accountability," Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan told reporters after the core committee's meeting.

She wondered why applications by the PTI against the PML-N and PPP were not being entertained.

PTI's statement comes four days after the ECP decided to hear the five-year-old foreign funding case against Imran Khan's party on a daily basis.

PTI's dissident founding member, Akbar S Babar said the foreign funding case in November 2014, alleging that nearly $3 million in illegal foreign funds were received through two offshore companies and that money was sent through "hundi" channels from the Middle East to the accounts of "PTI employees".
