Good Newwz Is Like Hrishikesh Mukherjee Style Social Comedy Says Karan Johar

Filmmaker and producer Karan Johar says that Good Newwz is the first ever movie from the house of Dharma Production which is similar to veteran Hrishikesh Mukherjee style social comedy.

Actor Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kiara Advani, Diljit Dosanjh along with Karan Johar, Raj Mehta and more graced the trailer launch of Good Newwz.

Dharma Productions is known for musical romantic dramas, and forthcoming Good Newwz is more on social comedy film. When asked about the Good Newwz being different than previous releases, Karan said, “Hrishikesh Mukherjee always made comic films with social message and I’d always desired that under Dharma productions, we should make one such film. A social comedy film which is relevant, emotional and make people laugh and cry, and it should have a feel good factor. Dharma production hasn’t made any such film ever”  

Further adding, Karan Johar praised Akshay Kumar for being the only actor in Bollywood, who is frontrunner of backing debut directors.

He said, “So when I went to Akshay Kumar’s house for the narration, I took a big budgeted movie, because he is a mega movie star. And I think Akshay has this quality that he searches for content, he doesn’t look at the scale or the director. He is one actor who has supported first time directors. And I think that is very rare for a mega movie star in India today. Raj Mehta is our 16^th debut director but its 23^rd debut director for Akshay Kumar”  

“So Akshay Kumar heard the narration and within a day, the film was locked, signed and ready to go. When I wanted to make such film, my idea was to make an intimate film but Akshay Kumar gave the film a scale” added Karan Johar.

The film revolves around two odd couple trying their hands at pregnancy with vitro fertilization but due to goof-up, their eggs and sperms get mixed, which cause a series of hilarious ramification and situations.

The film is directed by debutante Raj Mehta. It is produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Shashank Khaitan. The story and screenplay are by Jyoti Kapoor.

Good Newwz in cinemas this Christmas, 27th December.
