Gaya (Bihar), Sep 25 (IANS) A social worker here in Bihar has offered 'Pind daan' - a Hindu ritual to offer prayers to the departed soul for its peace and salvation - for the 40 CRPF personnel killed in the February 14 terror attack in J&K's Pulwama.
Chandan Kumar Singh has been continuing this tradition of offering 'pind daan' for the martyrs or those killed in fatal accidents, started by his late father in the year 2001.
Chandan offered prayers at Devghat located near the famed Vishnupad Temple in this Bihar town where Hindus congregate for the ritual.
He told IANS that his father, Suresh Narayan, had first offered 'pind daan' for the victims of 2001 Gujarat earthquake. Since then, his family has continued with the tradition.
Chandan also offered 'pind daan' for 22 people killed in a fire at a coaching institute in Gujarat's Surat.
"My father has followed this tradition for 13 years and after his demise, I am carrying it on," he said, adding the rituals are organised by Babu Suresh Narayan Memorial Trust.
"The entire world belongs to us. What could be a greater act than offering 'pind daan' to those departed souls!" he said.
