NTPC commisions 660 MW 'ultra-super critical' unit in MP
New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS) State-run power major NTPC on Friday said that it has commissioned India's first "ultra-super critical" unit having a capacity of 660 megawatt (MW) at Madhya Pradesh's Khargone.

"This plant operates at efficiency of 41.5 per cent which is 3.3 per cent higher than the conventional super-critical ones," the company said in a statement.

The high efficiency will result in less coal consumption for generating same amount of electricity as in super critical plants and will result in reduction of 3.3 per cent in carbon dioxide emissions, it said

The company further said that eventually the Khargone plant will have a total capacity of 1,320 MW with two units of 660 MW each. The required facilities for sustainable running of the plant like fuel handling and transportation systems are ready and the plant will start commercial operation very soon, it added.
