BJP Rajya Sabha member G.V.L. Narasimha Rao, MLC Somu Veerraju, former Minister P. Manikyala Rao and other party leaders met the families affected by the Polavaram project on Sunday, and listened to their grievances pertaining to the alleged irregularities in their rehabilitation and resettlement.
They also had discussions with the officials of Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) and the State government on the future implementation plans.
The visit of BJP leaders assumed significance in the context of the cold war raging between the Central and State governments over the pre-closure of the contract awarded to Navayuga Engineering Company Limited, the objections raised by the PPA, and the legal battle that the two sides fought in the High Court.
