Ranchi, Aug 23 (IANS) A 23-year-old youth committed suicide by hanging himself in the police station lock-up in Ranchi on Friday.
According to the police, Nesar Ansari was arrested on charges of theft. He was lodged in the police station lock-up. On early Friday, Nesar hanged himself in the bathroom of the lock-up.
Police said he tore a blanket and used it to hang himself.
His family members have alleged that he was killed in the lock-up. The police had arrested Ansari on August 20 and not produced him in court. Police however have refuted the family's allegation.
Senior police officials have started a probe in the incident.
