New York, Aug 17 (IANS) The US dollar rose in late trading on Friday as sentiment was lifted by robust data.
US consumers' spending increased in July, as retail and food services sales rose 0.7 per cent to US $523.5 billion, the Department of Commerce said on Thursday, Xinhua reported.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, was up 0.01 per cent at 98.1554 in late trading.
In late New York trading, the euro decreased to US $1.1095 from US $1.1106 in the previous session, and the British pound was up to US $1.2151 from US $1.2110 in the previous session. The Australian dollar was up to US $0.6781 from US $0.6775.
The US dollar bought 106.28 Japanese yen, higher than 106.12 Japanese yen of the previous session. The US dollar increased to 0.9783 Swiss franc from 0.9769 Swiss franc, and it decreased to 1.3269 Canadian dollars from 1.3323 Canadian dollars.
