Since he feels it is too sensitive for him politically, YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy appears to be unwilling to entertain any demand for reservations to Kapu community.

Since it becomes controversial and triggers protests, there was no question of providing reservations to Kapus under Other Backward Classes quota or Economically Weaker Sections quota, Jagan told to a delegation of Kapu MLAs, MLCs, and ministers which met him on Monday in no uncertain terms.

As no time limit has been fixed for the committee to submit its report, the three-member committee constituted by Jagan to study Manjunatha Commission report was just to drag the issue further, according to party sources. A source said, “There is nothing much to do a deep study on the report. But Jagan wants to prolong the issue as long as he can.”

For not replying to the letter written by the Centre on April 4 seeking clarity on whether the State wanted to take back the decision of including Kapus in the BC list, Jagan sought to blame Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu government.

A kapu leader alleged, “How can Naidu give any reply to the Centre at a time when he was amidst of campaign for the assembly elections held on April 11? Even after that, he could not have written any letter, as he was only an interim chief minister without any powers to make a decision. Maybe, he would have replied to the letter had he come back to power again.”
