Chennai, July 23 (IANS) Former Mayor of Tirunelveli Uma Maheswari, her husband Muruga Sankaran, and their maidservant were hacked to death on Tuesday, said the police.
A DMK member, Maheswari was elected the first female Mayor of Tirunelveli in 1996.
According to the police, some unidentified persons came to Maheswari's house in the evening and committed the crime.
