Indian percussion one of the most sophisticated: Gino Banks

New Delhi, June 22 (IANS) Indian percussion is one of the most sophisticated systems of rhythm in the world, notes drummer Gino Banks, who performed here in a concert on Friday.

Banks, who is the son of Louiz Banks, India's legendary jazz pianist, has previously said that "India is the land of percussion".

"The Indian percussion and its tradition is one of the most sophisticated systems of rhythm in the world. It has a lot of potential," Banks told IANS over email.

The young musician has performed Bollywood sessions and gigs with A.R. Rahman, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Salim-Sulaiman and Vishal-Shekhar. On Friday, he performed alongside masters of sitar, flute, tabla, guitar and keyboard in an HCL concert titled 'Parampara Reloaded'.

He feels that if musicians from different genres play together and support one another on stage, "the instrument and the style of music doesn't matter".

"Our goal is to create a sound in a moment and play as one unit to entertain, enlighten and give the audience as well as ourselves a feeling of joy and happiness."
