Experience Yoga in Google's online exhibition
New Delhi, June 21 (IANS) Bitten by the Yoga bug following International Day of Yoga on June 21? Now, an online exhibition on the Google Arts and Culture mobile app can be your handy instructor of the benefits, techniques and culture of the age-old practice.

The online platform on Friday announced an exhibit, "Stories of Yoga", that has been curated by iconic Indian yoga institutions.

Yoga, a practice focusing on breathing, flexibility and strength to boost mental and physical well-being, has regained popularity in the global health and fitness spheres, and has become the focus of this new exhibit.

It seeks to guide you through the history, culture and science behind the practice, just like a Yoga master would lead you through the steps of postures, explains Google Arts and Culture Program Manager Simon Rein.

Apart from the history, the well-curated exhibition takes viewers through concepts of traditional healing, 12 basic postures and different Yoga forms. It even makes you meet philosophers Swami Vivekanda, among others.

In his blog post, Rein wrote: "Did you know that women were actually barred from practicing the Yoga discipline? Meet pioneer Shrimati Sita Devi Yogendra, who changed perceptions by becoming the first female guru. She introduced sequences specially tailored for women's physiology."

Moreover, the show has digitised the whole Museum of Classical Yoga. Yoga in art and architecture is featured as well.

"Stories of Yoga" can be accessed on the Google Arts and Culture application and website for free.
